The JL Shandy story began in 1991, when experienced dispatcher and trucking industry professional Jack Crotty set off on his own with the dream of building a transportation services company that has both the strength and professionalism of the large hauling firms, with the flexibility and quick response rates of a small family-owned company. With the help of his wife Lynn, Jack built JL Shandy into one of the Midwest's leading transportation services providers, with the capability to deliver across the U.S. quickly, efficiently and, most importantly, safely.
While you'll still find plenty of Crottys around the JL Shandy offices today, over the years our family has expanded to include our team of hard-working dispatchers and safety professionals, as well as more than 60 independent contractors who haul for us. Most of our team members, including our truckers, have been with us for years and some for decades.
While our industry can be fast-paced and hectic with complex challenges, our team of dispatchers work together in one big, open concept office that allows us to collaborate and communicate quickly and easily. As a family does, we laugh together and do our best to keep our atmosphere open, laid back, and light-hearted.
True to Jack's original vision for the company, we pride ourselves on delivering top-quality service, on-time deliveries, convenience, and dependability for our customers.
Our process results in less paperwork, phone time, and time spent dealing with multiple vendors. It is this strong communication from our expert team that has help JL Shandy earn our reputation in the industry and what keeps our customers coming back time and time again.
Above all, we pride ourselves on safety. We are proud of our DOT compliance, safety statistics and the MVRs of our drivers, which are higher than the industry standard. We have maintained a DOT Satisfactory Rating for more than 15 years running, and were honored with the 2020 Award for 'Outstanding Fleet Safety Performance' from Acuity Insurance.
Our safety team is responsible for looking after both the safety of our vehicles and the fitness of our drivers. We conduct load securement training for our drivers, delivered by Indiana State Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officers. Additionally, we carry out regularly-scheduled annual inspections of our fleet and require monthly maintenance reports. Our team also conduct random drug testing and require physicals every two years to ensure our drivers are fit for the road.
